One of the key figures of this period was the German Protestant theologian J\u00fcrgen Moltmann, who would have turned 100 on April 8, 2026. His formation as a theologian was deeply shaped by the major upheavals of the second half of the twentieth century, including the aftermath of World War II, the rise and collapse of the bipolar world order, the growing threat of nuclear war, and the ecological crisis.\nMoltmann\u2019s theological work reflects his engagement with these challenges. He rethought eschatology through his theology of hope, sought to understand the tragedies of the Holocaust and the world wars in terms of the suffering of God, reflected on the role of the Church in changing political contexts, and emphasized dialogue as a central form of doing theology.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-a32649a\" data-block-id=\"a32649a\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">To commemorate the 100th anniversary of J\u00fcrgen Moltmann\u2019s birth, the Eastern European Institute of Theology and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.odessasem.org\">Odesa Theological Seminary<\/a> are organizing a seminar titled <strong>\"J\u00fcrgen Moltmann: Remembering the Person, Celebrating the Legacy\"<\/strong>. The event aims to explore Moltmann\u2019s central theological ideas and their continuing relevance today, with particular attention to the Ukrainian context.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-29f45ad\" data-block-id=\"29f45ad\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">The keynote speaker is <strong>Paul S. Fiddes<\/strong>, Professor Emeritus of Systematic Theology at the University of Oxford. In 1976, Professor Fiddes was a visiting scholar at the University of T\u00fcbingen, where he studied under J\u00fcrgen Moltmann and Eberhard J\u00fcngel. He is the author of several monographs and dozens of scholarly articles. <strong>His lecture, titled \u201cJ\u00fcrgen Moltmann: Theologian and Christian Leader of Our Time,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0 will examine the central themes of Moltmann\u2019s theological legacy and their significance in the context of the social and political transformations of that period. In particular, he will reflect on hope \u2013 so difficult to sustain today \u2013 on solidarity in suffering, the Trinity as a source of liberation, the place of creation within God, and the end as the fulfillment of justice.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-79e9647\" data-block-id=\"79e9647\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">The two respondents are Ukrainian theologians: <strong>Anatoliy Denysenko<\/strong>, Senior Research Fellow at the Eastern European Institute of Theology and author of the monograph <em>Liberation Theology: Ideas, Criticism, Perspectives<\/em>, as well as a number of articles on contemporary political theology; and <strong>Taras Dyatlik<\/strong>, Coordinator for the Development of Theological Education at Scholar Leaders in Eastern Europe, Consultant on Theological Education at Mesa Global, and Vice-Rector for Development and International Cooperation at the Eastern European Institute of Theology.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-10d9ee3\" data-block-id=\"10d9ee3\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">The seminar will be moderated by <strong>Oleksandr Geychenko<\/strong>, Rector of Odesa Theological Seminary and Senior Research Fellow at the Eastern European Institute of Theology.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-3806264\" data-block-id=\"3806264\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\"><strong>The seminar will take place online on April 23 at 4:00 p.m. Kyiv time and is scheduled to last two hours.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-cfc248f\" data-block-id=\"cfc248f\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Ukrainian simultaneous translation will be provided.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-text stk-block-text stk-block stk-fd27253\" data-block-id=\"fd27253\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">To participate in the seminar, please fill out <a href=\"https:\/\/us02web.zoom.us\/meeting\/register\/rmRXGAACRDmkOjCeM0zsXA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the registration form<\/a>.
