Open Lecture with Amos Yong: Theological Education by and for the Church in the 2020s

October 31, 2024

The Eastern European Institute of Theology announces a series of open lectures with renowned theologians, philosophers, and representatives of related humanities on pressing topics pertaining to the existence and thinking of the church in the modern world, its missionary presence in the context of the greatest scientific, political, ethical, and cultural challenges.

This year, the Institute invites everyone interested to an open lecture with Amos Yong, a prominent theologian, Professor at Fuller Theological Seminary.

Amos Yong

Amos Yong is Professor of Theology and Mission at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California. His graduate education includes degrees in theology, history, and religious studies from Western Evangelical Seminary (now Portland Seminary) and Portland State University, both in Portland, Oregon, and Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts, and an undergraduate degree from Bethany University of the Assemblies of God. Licensed as a minister with the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel, he has also authored or edited dozens of scholarly volumes. He and his wife, Alma, have three children and six grandchildren. Amos and Alma reside in Southern California.

The topic of the lecture is “Renewal of the Mind: Theological Education by and for the Church.” Together with the speaker, we will discuss the challenges facing theological education in the 21st century. In the Ukrainian Christian context, the suspicion of theological education, which is a Soviet legacy, causes gaps between churches and institutions that seek to develop academic theology. How to overcome these prejudices? Why does the church need theological education? And why is the church necessary for the development of theological education? We will be looking for answers to these questions together with the speaker and participants of the event.

The lecture will take place on October 31 at 5:00 pm Kyiv time.

Ukrainian translation will be provided.
